The two time defending national champion Vernon Vipers opened their training camp Wednesday, ending the day with a scrimmage game which was won by team red led by returning forward Dylan Walchuk who scored twice.
Assistant coach Jason Williamson is impressed with the talent.
"With what we've seen so far, we're definitely going to have some long nights and some tough decisions, but we've got a few days to decide."
Williamson says while returning goalie Blake Voth could be the starter this year....he is being challenged by the other net minders.
"There's three other young, good goalies here that are going to push him and I think that's good, not just for him but players at every position. In order for returning players to get better and take the next step, they've got to get pushed."
Williamson says a number of things will weigh into their decision making when forming the team.
"We're allowed six 20 year olds and eight imports, and you're looking for a certain type of player to fill a certain role. There's 23 spots and no one is safe. You've just got to go out there and be better than one guy, at your position."
Camp continues today with another Blue-White scrimmage at 6pm at Wesbild Centre.
Fans are welcome to attend the Blue vs White games which are free but donations of non-perishable food items for the Vernon Food Bank are encouraged.
The Vipers open their pre season schedule with games against the Trail Smoke Eaters Friday and Saturday, both in Chase.
Vernon will host one exhibition game on Friday September 3rd against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, the same team they will host in the regular season opener September 10.
