Mills for Vipers
Published: March 07, 2010
So much for the leisurely one-hour jaunt up Highway 97 that many pundits had predicted for the Vernon Vipers.
Instead, they’ll face at least one 1,000-kilometre round trip as they tangle with the Quesnel Millionaires in the B.C. Hockey League Interior Conference semifinals. Games 1 and 2 go Tuesday and Wednesday night at Wesbild Centre.
The Mills played the spoiler, upending the Salmon Arm SilverBacks 6-1 in Game 6 of their best-of-seven B.C. Hockey League elimination series Friday night at the Vault, earning a 4-2 series decision.
Netminder Kirby Halcrow turned in a 39-save performance to earn first star for Quesnel, who hammered the ‘Backs 8-1 in Game 5 Thursday night at the Sunwave Centre.
Darick Ste-Marie and Joshua Desmarais each collected 2+2 for the Mills, who got three helpers from Jacob Verheyden.
Christopher Hoe had the lone goal for Salmon Arm, who limped into the post-season with a 2-7-1 record in their last 10 regular-season tilts.
In the other Interior semi, the Penticton Vees host the Westside Warriors, while on the coast, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs meet the Nanaimo Clippers, and the Powell River Kings square off with the Langley Chiefs.
