Spruce Kings Trade Ex Viper Defenceman Meek To Cowichan:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded former Vernon Vipers defenceman Mitch Meek to the Cowichan Capitals.  Meek will join former Vipers forward Aydan Macdonald who was traded from Victoria to Cowichan on May 19th 2015.

Meek played parts of one season in Vernon last year (2014-15) played in 50 games with the Vipers collecting (6-goals-10-assists-16-points) after coming over in a trade with the Victoria Grizzlies.  On October 8th 2014 the Grizzlies traded Brandon Egli, Mitch Meek & Future Considerations to the Vipers for Aydan Macdonald & Jake Emilio. Over the off season the Vipers traded Meek in a three way deal with West Kelowna & Prince George.  On July 9th 2015 the Vipers traded Meek to West Kelowna for Mac Ferner before the Warriors traded Meek to Prince George for Luke Harrison.

Caps Swap Bechtel for Meek

Duncan, BC - The Cowichan Capitals have acquired veteran defenceman Mitch Meek from the Prince George Spruce Kings in exchange for 20 year-old blue liner Rylan Bechtel.

It's a bit of a homecoming of sorts for the soon to be 19 year-old Meek who hails from nearby Victoria.  Traded from the Grizzlies to the Vernon Vipers early last season, Meek put up a combined seven goals and 11 assists in 56 games with 38 penalty minutes.  He was sent to Prince George earlier this off-season as part of a three-way deal also involving the West Kelowna Warriors.

"Mitch is an experienced, solid, puck-moving defenceman that we expect will help solidify our back-end as well as contribute on the power play," said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Bob Beatty.

"He's excited to make his return to Vancouver Island and we are equally excited to have him with the Capitals."

Meek actually played his first three BCHL games with the Capitals as an affiliate back in the 2011-12 season.

The 6', 200 pound defenceman comes to Cowichan with an NCAA Division I scholarship in hand to Clarkson University starting next season.

Entering his fourth BCHL campaign, Meek has a total of ten goals and 31 assists in 145 regular season games with an additional eight points in 34 playoff games.

Bechtel leaves Cowichan having played all three of his full BCHL seasons with the Capitals amassing seven goals and 62 assists in 167 games.

The Capitals thank Rylan for all he's done for the Capitals and wish him well in Prince George.  The team also wishes Mitch a warm welcome to the Cowichan Valley!

BCHL veteran Rylan Bechtel joins Kings defense

The Prince George Spruce Kings are pleased to announce the acquisition of 20 year old defenseman Rylan Bechtel from The Cowichan Valley Capitals in exchange for 19 year old defenseman Mitch Meek.

The 5’10” 195lb Bechtel is from Chilliwack and is a BCHL veteran with 173 games played. Last season in 56 games played with Cowichan Valley, Bechtel tallied 5 goals and 37 assists for 42 points to go along with 60 penalty minutes.

“Rylan is a veteran player with a lot of experience in our league. He is a very solid two way defenseman who will come in here and play in all situations for us while providing a lot of leadership. He’s also a tremendous young man who will fit in well with our core values and provide some mentorship for our younger players” said Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.

Mitch Meek had been acquired by the Spruce Kings earlier in the off season in a three team trade involving The Vernon Vipers and West Kelowna Warriors.

Rylan Bechtel will join the rest of his Spruce Kings teammates when the team commences their Main Training Camp on Monday August 24th at the coliseum.
