Coughlin is a big, physical forward who excelled in his first season in the BCHL.
Former Catholic Memorial star Liam Coughlin has switched his commitment from UMass to Boston University. The news was initially reported by the Boston Hockey Blog and confirmed to this writer by a source with the Vernon Vipers, Coughlin's current junior team in the BCHL.
Coughlin finished fourth in scoring on the Vipers during the regular season with 18 goals and 27 assists in 53 games played. The South Boston native has six goals and five assists in 15 playoff games. The big-bodied Coughlin could be an impact power forward at the collegiate level.
The Terriers are stockpiling plenty of high-end talent for next season, including a projected top five pick in the 2015 NHL Draft in Jack Eichel of the USNTDP and Chelmsford, Mass.
The de-commitment was another tough blow for John Micheletto's staff at UMass. Jake Wahlin, one of the top recruits in Minnesota, decided he wasn't going to head east to Amherst as planned.
