Vipers Name Captains for Season

The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce the captains of the 2013/2014 Vernon Vipers hockey team.
Entering his fourth season with the Vipers, 20 year old defenseman Ryan Renz will wear the C this year. This 6’3” D-man demonstrates work ethic, dedication to the game and team work. Renz has put up a total of 125 pts and 152 PMS in 3 seasons with the Vipers and is expected to be a major contributor in the upcoming season.
As selected by the coaching staff the players joining Captain Ryan Renz this season are as follows:
Veteran fourth-year Brendan Persley chalked up 41 pts for the Vipers last season. The Unsung Hero Award Winner of 2012/2013 demonstrates leadership both on and off the ice, he is expected to be a big part of the team.
20 year old Jason Bird joined the Vipers last season from the Coquitlam Express. The product of Vancouver BC appeared in 14 games last season registering 3 goals and 3 assists. He is expected to contribute largely both on and off the ice this season.
19 year old Mason Blacklock joined the Vipers at the trading deadline last season after being acquired in a trade from the Surrey Eagles. Blacklock appeared in 19 games with Vernon in 12/13 and posted 10 goals and 8 assists. The veteran BCHL forward has appeared in 143 regular season games.
20 year old Josh Bryan rounds out the alternate captains. Bryan is a native of Sydney on Vancouver Island and he spent last season with the Nanaimo Clippers. Known for his rugged defensive play he also has an offensive side as the defenceman tallied career highs in goals and points last season with 9 and 30. He brings a wealth of experience having played in the Western Canada Cup last season and having appeared in 159 BCHL regular season games.
The Vipers open the BCHL regular season on Saturday at 1130 am as the Surrey Eagles provide the opposition. Vernon will also play Chilliwack on Sunday at 6pm both games are part of the BCHL Bauer Showcase happening this weekend in Chilliwack.
