Panthers Send Former Vipers Defenceman Tyson Strachan Back To AHL:

The Florida Panthers have sent former Vernon Vipers defenceman, Tyson Strachan to the AHL San Antonio Rampage. Strachan played just one season in Vernon (2002-03) collecting (6-22-28) in 56 regular season games with the Vipers, before playing four years at Ohio State University. Strachan was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (137th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Strachan signed as a free agent with the Florida Panthers back in July after playing the last four seasons with the AHL Peoria Rivermen & the NHL St. Louis Blues.

Panthers return Strachan to Rampage

Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has returned defenseman Tyson Strachan to the San Antonio Rampage (AHL).

Strachan, 27, has appeared in 35 games with the Rampage this season totaling three goals and nine assists with a plus-2 rating. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound blueliner has played in 177 career AHL games and totaled 11 goals and 43 assists with Albany (2006-07), Peoria (2009-10) and San Antonio (2011-12).


A native of Melfort, Saskatchewan, Strachan has played in 15 games with the Panthers this season posting one goal and two assists with a plus-1 rating and averaging 14:20 of ice time. He made his Florida Panthers debut on Jan. 24 vs. Philadelphia and registered his first Panthers point, an assist, on Feb. 1 vs. Washington. He scored his first National Hockey League goal on Feb. 12, in Florida’s 4-1 victory against the New York Islanders.

For his career in the NHL, Strachan has appeared in 82 games with St. Louis (2008-11) and Florida (2012), scoring one goal with eight assists and 87 PIM. He was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rampage host back-to-back KZEP Dollar Dink Nights this Friday against Abbotsford and Saturday vs. Rockford at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Saturday night is also Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader night in which America’s Sweethearts will perform during both intermissions and will sign autographs from 6-7 p.m. in the Bud Light Courtyard.
