WESTSIDE DEALS KRAUSE FOR BASARA

Thursday, December 1, 2011 - Submitted by Jon Zacks

The Westside Warriors have tinkered with their offence – by sending their leading scorer out of town.

Kelowna native Tyler Krause has been sent to the AJHL’s Okotoks Oilers in a three-way deal. The 20 year-old had recorded 29 points (12+17) in 24 games so far this year, and also committed to Bentley University earlier in the season.

“We would like to thank Tyler for his contributions to this organization” says Warriors Head coach/GM Rylan Ferster. “He’s a great hockey player and a great young man, and we wish him all the best.”

In return, the Warriors acquire Marcus Basara. The Greater-Vancouver product was currently playing his second season with the Vernon Vipers, after winning a Telus Cup (national midget championship) with the Notre Dame Hounds. The smooth skating forward has 17 points in 24 games so far this year with the Vipers, after helping them reach the national championship game last season. Basara had been dealt from Vernon to Okotoks earlier in the week in exchange for the AJHL’s leading scorer Ben Gamache.

“We had some tough decisions to make” says Ferster of today’s moves. Facing a deadline to get his team down to 21 active players, Westside’s bench boss also released 1992-born forward Taylor Fauchoux earlier in the week, and moved 1994-born defenceman to the KIJHL’s Kelowna Chiefs on Thursday.

The Warriors have a tough weekend upcoming. They host the league-leading Penticton Vees on Friday, before road games in Prince George on Saturday and Sunday. The Tribe then host Penticton once again on Tuesday evening.

Westside is expecting a boost this weekend, with injured forwards Max French and Brennan Clark both expected to make their return to action.
