Former Vernon Lakers centre Corey Carlson, his wife and two young daughters were killed in a plane crash in Alaska on the weekend.

Carlson, 41, played one year for the Lakers, 1988-89, helping the team win its second straight BCHL championship, and to its first-ever appearance at the Centennial Cup (now Royal Bank Cup) Canadian championship. Carlson, a native of Alaska, was sixth in Interior Conference scoring during the season.

Thank you very much for the wonderful words about Corey. He was very proud to be a Laker.

Today I learned of the tragic untimely death of Corey Carlson, his wife Hetty and their daughters Ella and Addie.

So sad....

I just wanted to give my heartfelt deepest sympathies to their families for their loss.

My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time and my heart goes out to you.

I knew Corey when he played hockey in Vernon.

Sending you thoughts of peace and courage.

Remembering Coreys infectious smile.
