Merritt Centennials forward Jordan Soquila and Vernon Vipers defenceman Kevin Kraus have each been awarded RBC/Hockey Canada scholarships following their final British Columbia Hockey League seasons.
Soquila has been named one of two national winners of the Nickerson Award, which is presented as a $500 scholarship to the top student-athletes who are pursuing a university hockey career in Canada. The Centennials captain had previously been announced as the BCHL's RBC Junior A scholarship winner, picking up a $1000 award towards his studies at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
Meanwhile, Kraus has been named a recipient of the RBC Legacy Award, which is presented as a $500 scholarship to one player from each of the five competing teams from the 2010 RBC Cup in Dauphin, MB. Kraus, who has yet to settle on a post-secondary destination for the fall, captained the Vipers to Fred Page, Doyle and RBC Cup championships as a 20-year old.
