For just the second time in franchise history, the Vipers have clinched more than 50 wins in a regular season. The Vipers hit the 51-win mark this season one shy of the team and league record. The Vipers won 52 games in the 1998-99 campaign, which they followed up with a national Junior A title. The 51-6-0-3 Vipers also set a new BCHL record for the fewest goals allowed (119). The previous record of 137 was set by the Penticton Vees in 2005-06. Goaltender Blake Voth etched his name into the BCHL annals, setting a record 1.79 goals against average. The rookie tender bettered Nanaimo Clipper net detective Simon Nolet’s 1.98 GAA in 2004-05. 1st Round: First Round Bye
2nd Round: Defeated Quesnel in six games
Interior Conference Finals: Defeated Penticton in six games
Home Playoff Record: 5-3
Road Playoff Record: 4-3
Vernon’s powerplay vs. Powell River: 2-8
Vernon has scored just three goals in three games vs. the Kings.
For the first time in these playoffs the Vipers are down in a series and come into tonights contest looking for a huge win as the team dosnt want to go down 3-1 heading back to Vernon for Game 5. Mark Ferner and the Vipers need to find someway to get through or around the strong defensive play of the Powell River Kings. Powell River has done something not too many other teams have been able to do this season and that’s been shutdown the high powered offence from the Vernon Vipers. The Kings defence has done a great job at keeping the Vipers to the outside and getting very little traffic towards the front of Josh Watson. The Vipers are also feeling the heat from the Kings very aggressive forecheck and attack on the Vernon d-men. The Vipers need some scoring and more offensive attack from other lines then just the Gill-Jones line. Vernon needs some secondary scoeing. Vernon must stay out of the penalty box tonight and try and capitalize on their chances. Again the Vipers need to play physical. The Vipers 13 returning players from last years Championship team need to step up and use their experience and leadership to their advantage. The Vipers need to stay focused and dig deep and come up with a huge game, Vernon is 0-2 in Powell River this year (regular season & playoffs)
