Connor Jones scored twice and added an assist Friday, leading the Interior Conference leading Vernon Vipers to a 4-1 victory over the Westside Warriors.
Jones, the Vipers leading goal scorer, notched his 25th of the season with an unassisted shorthanded effort 11 minutes into the second to open the scoring.
His second of the game, 15 seconds into the third, also shorthanded and unassisted, increased the lead to 2-0.
Rob Short increased the lead to 3-0 nearly four minutes later before Max French broke Blake Voth's shutout bid with just under five minutes to go.
The Vipers ended any hope of a Warriors comeback with an empty netter at 19:57.
Vernon, who remain three points up on second place Penticton, out shot the Warriors 34-21 including 25-11 over the first 40 minutes.
Neither team had any success on the power-play. The Vipers went 0-3 while the Warriors were 0-4 along with allowing two shorthanded markers.
The Warriors, losers of three of their last four, will try to turn things around Saturday when they host the fourth place Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
Meantime, former Warrior Craig Eisenhut was in attendance at Friday's game.
The 19-year-old forward, recently released by the Powell River Kings, has been practicing with the Warriors the past few days.
Eisenhut played three injury plagued seasons with the Warriors before being dealt to Williams Lake during the off season. The Timberwolves sent him to Powell River just before the start of training camp.
