After long speculated rumors of former Chilliwack Bruins forward, David Robinson leaving the Bruins and returning to his hometown Vipers, finally come true this afternoon after Robinson signed with the Vipers and is rumored to be in the lineup tomorrow night vs Merritt.
How Acquired: Selected by the Bruins from the Tri City Americans in the 2006 WHL Expansion Draft
Notes
Acquired from the Tri City Americans in the 2006 WHL Expansion Draft...selected by the Americans with the 161st pick in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft...scored 23 goals and 38 assists in 40 games with the Okanagan Rockets of the BC Major Midget League during the 2006-07 season. Scored his first WHL goal with the Bruins on December 29th in a 3-2 win in Prince George...recorded his first WHL multiple point game on October 10th, 2008 (1g 1a) in a 5-4 home ice win versus the Prince Albert Raiders.
In 33 games this year with Chilliwack Robinson picked up (5-6-11) with 75 penalty minutes. Robinson then decided to leave the Bruins before signing with the Vernon Vipers.
Robinson a Vernon product played in 4 games as an "AP" player with the Vipers back in the 2006-07 season. Robinson went pointless in four regular season games. Robinson would return to the Vernon lineup during the Vipers playoff run vs Penticton. On a line with both Kellen & Connor Jones Robinson played in 11 playoff games collecting (2-4-6) with 6 penalty minutes. Robinson and the Vipers upset the Penticton Vees in 5 games to win the Interior Division Championship. The Vipers would then fall 5 games in the League Final to the BCHL Champion Nanaimo Clippers.
The word on the Vipers this season is the team is too small and not very physical, will Robinson add that physical presence? At 5"11 and 180 lbs Robinson is the all-time penalty minute leader in Chilliwack Bruins history. Maybe his size and toughness will add something that has been lacking from the Vipers this year.
After signing Robinson the Vipers now have a full 23 man roster after only having a 22 man roster after the trade with the Cowichan Valley Capitals for Curtis Gedig. The question is with the BCHL trade deadline Sunday, will Mark Ferner make any big trades before the deadline? I guess time will tell.
The Chilliwack Bruins have to be wondering now why a kid like Robinson leaves the Bruins after saying "a lack of passion for the game" & then signs with the Vipers?
Another question will be, who will be playing with David Robinson? Will he go back on a line with Connor & Kellen Jones? The line that basically domianted the Penticton Vees during the 2006-07 Playoffs.
I think this is a good move for the Vipers. "A" They fill the 23 man roster, "B" Robinson will add that physical presence and maybe some toughness that has been lacking this year. "C" I think the Vipers have needed a big power forward, someone who can stand in front of the net on the powerplay, or isnt afraid of going into the grey area's and banging some bodies. Im looking forward to hopefully seeing David in the Vernon lineup tomorrow night.
