Eagles Acquire Brendan Kim From The Vernon Vipers

November 28, 2019

Surrey, BC – The Surrey Eagles have acquired 2000 born defenseman Brendan Kim from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for future considerations.

The Burnaby native is a 2nd year veteran of the BCHL, and has 5 assists and 12 penalty minutes in 20 games played this season. The right shot defender’s BCHL career has seen him play 72 games, scoring 6 goals, 20 points, and notching 28 penalty minutes.

Brendan’s first game could potentially be against his old team, as the Eagles play the Vipers tomorrow night in Vernon.

Welcome to the flock Brendan!

Brendan, you will be missed. You are a fine young man and a good hockey player that plays the right way. Good luck in your future.

The Truth about Brendan Kim, He quit after when the Vipers get back home from the Island's games.

Future Considerations? This is a horrible trade!!! Kim is a talented player & should have brought a decent player in return. The Vipers are seriously "goal challenged" and have been playing defensemen as forwards for most of the season. Getting some help up front for Marritt & Kowalski is long overdue. We have far too many rookies who we are "waiting to find their game" at the BCHL level. It is time to trade or reassign a couple of them and get some proven goal scorers.

Relax. It might not be a horrible trade. The carding deadline is Sunday. And maybe the Vipers will be getting an American player from Surrey and will have to move an American player before getting a player from Surrey. The Vipers are currently at six imports, the maximum.

Surrey plays here in Vernon on Friday and maybe Surrey has given Vernon the option of one of several players and the Vipers will choose after the Friday game. There are many possibilities.

And I don't think that the Kim trade is the only move that will be made in the next few days.

I have to agree with "Anonymous" and also think the Vipers could have got more then "future considerations" for Brendan Kim. Why didn't the Vipers put Kim in some kind of package deal and try to acquire a forward/goal scorer? Maybe there is nothing available or the price was too steep? I'm sure the Vipers are out in search of some forwards/scoring.

Is future considerations a player to be named later as in a player for next year? Or is the future considerations a player in return at a later date for this season? Unless the Vipers get a player from Surrey this season, this "future considerations" doesn't help the Vipers this year. Vernon is the lowest scoring team in the league and needs scoring in a big way! Maybe there's more to this trade then we know. I guess will have to wait and see.

I heard rumors about two weeks ago Kim had left the Vipers, and has been out of the lineup the past few weeks. Brendan Kim has come along way since joining the Vipers last year and has improved into a solid BCHL defenceman. Kim was quick, could carry the puck up ice, read the ice well and chipped in with the odd point now and again. Was one of the better/more consistent Vipers defencemen this season. Sad to see him go.

With the BCHL card deadline this weekend, will we see more trades/roster moves before the deadline? I have been following the other teams across the league and several teams have been busy today making trades.

It sounds like Bob McInnes is in the know and knows something we don't know

My question is......What sort of return should the Vipers expect, for a Power Play D.man, with ZERO goals, after 20 games ? Especially when he has left the team ( if in fact he has) ? Would another GM trade a "Scoring Forward" for Kim ?? Hmmmmmmmm......I guess we will see what "Futures" amount to ???

I'm not saying the Vipers would get a forward/goal scorer for Brendan Kim, but put together a package deal. Brendan Kim may not have a power play goal, but is a good young defenceman. The Vipers power play is also not good this season, so the team overall doesn't have a lot of power play goals. I was thinking the Vipers could have traded Brendan Kim & another player or two for a forward/goal scorer. I'm sure there is a team near the bottom of the standings somewhere that has a top six forward/scorer that maybe is older and would like to come to Vernon, in exchange for two or three players that will be returning next season. Maybe they tried and the exchange was just too rich for the Vipers to give up? Who knows what happens behind closed doors.
