Vipers Lose Long Time Season Ticket Holder: R.I.P Bruce Bailey (1960-2015)

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved brother.

Bruce is predeceased by his father, William B. Bailey (1982) and his mother, Ruth M. Bailey (2011).

He leaves behind his three sisters, Nola (Ed) Weston of Telkwa, BC, Carol Johnson of Edmonton, AB, and his twin, Sue-Anne Smith of Anchorage, Alaska; nieces, Corry (Marty) Carpino of Terrace, Erin Peacock of Fort St. John, Lindy (Scott) Chambers of Anchorage, Jackalynne of Baltimore, MD, and nephew Gerardo of Anchorage, and numerous great nieces and nephews. He also leaves his treasured daughter Kimberley of Vernon.

Bruce was a kind-hearted man who always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. He loved to joke and have fun, and always had time to hang out with his friends.

The Vernon Vipers have lost their most loyal fan, who loved to ring the cowbell and cheer on his team.

Bruce was very involved with the Special Olympics. He was an integral member of the Western Canadian Floor Hockey Team in the International Special Olympics Winter Games of 1989. The team went undefeated to win the gold medal in the A Division for Canada.

Bruce worked for the City of Vernon, Vernon Dodge, Kohler and the most recent, Watkin Motors. He took great pride in his work and attention to detail. His friends called him “Mr. Clean”, and when the neighbours heard Shania Twain blasting, they knew he was doing his housework. He even took his mother to see a Shania Twain concert in Edmonton.

Bruce loved to travel, having visited parts of Europe, Egypt, Israel, Alaska, and many points in between. He loved anything nautical, and had a large collection of beautiful wooden ships. He was thrilled to see the “Tall Ships” when they came to Victoria. His other passion was hiking around the valley, but his favorite trails were on Silver Star Mountain.

Bruce will be forever loved and sadly missed by his many friends, neighbours and co-workers.
There will be no service at this time, but the family is planning a hike and Celebration of Life at Sovereign Lake in September, and will provide more information at a later date.
