Pimm rides six-game scoring streak into weekend set with BC

BOSTON -- Braden Pimm knows how to score.
He proved that much in his first three seasons as a Husky, notching 48 points and 22 goals, some of which came in the most pivotal of situations.
But it seems he saved his best for last.
Pimm has scored a goal in every game he's played thus far and is a major reason the Huskies have jumped out to a 5-1-0 start – their best start since 1993-94, when they advanced to their third NCAA tournament in program history – and No. 19 national ranking.
In six games this season, the senior from Fort St. John's, British Columbia, has registered six goals and nine points, matching the offensive output of his entire freshman season and putting him on pace to set career-highs in goals, assists and points.
What's most remarkable, though, is how successful he's been after the Huskies struggled throughout the 2012-13 campaign.
After scoring 22 points (10-12-22) in 2011-12, Pimm regressed slightly in his junior season, tallying six goals and 11 assists on a Northeastern squad that ranked 45th nationally in scoring offense.
To boot, Northeastern was picked to finish last in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll prior to the start of this season.
But it's obvious that Pimm and the Huskies have put all of that behind them.
Northeastern is averaging 5.00 goals per game thanks to Pimm and an upstart young forward corps, tied with Providence for the highest offensive output in the country. Pimm's four power play goals this season – a career-high that is currently tied with Union's Michael Pontarelli for the most in the NCAA – have helped rejuvenate the Huskies' power play, which is currently tied for seventh in Division I (10/35, 28.6 percent) after ranking No. 32 nationally in 2012-13.
He hasn't done it alone, though. Pimm has benefitted from playing alongside three underclassmen to form a fearsome scoring tandem.
Pimm has spent most of his time skating on Northeastern's top line with sophomore Kevin Roy and freshmen center John Stevens. Roy has assisted three of Pimm's goals, while two of Pimm's assists have been on scores by Stevens and the other on a tally by Roy.
Freshman center Mike Szmatula has joined Pimm on the Huskies' No. 1 power play unit, tallying helpers on all four of Pimm's man-advantage goals and five of his six goals overall.
The Huskies have a tall task facing them this weekend as they square off with crosstown rival No. 8 Boston College in a home-and-home series. Northeastern knocked off then-top-ranked BC on Oct. 13, 2012, but the Eagles won the final three meetings of the season between the two sides, including a 6-3 victory in the Beanpot championship game on Feb. 11.
Pimm has four career points (3-1-4) against BC, three of which (2-1-3) came last season alone.
But one thing is for certain: If the Huskies continue their early-season success at the Eagles' expense this weekend, Pimm will be found right in the middle of it all.
