Four recipients named for BCHL/Canuck Alumni scholarships

A foursome of British Columbia Hockey League graduates have been announced as new recipients of the British Columbia Hockey League/Vancouver Canucks Alumni scholarship.

Max Grassi, who began his first season with the University of British Columbia Thuderbirds of Canadian Interuniversity Sport in September, played 221 BCHL games with the Burnaby Express, Nanaimo Clippers, Surrey Eagles and Penticton Vees. The North Vancouver native totalled 20 goals and 52 points in his final season with the Express and Vees, and helped Burnaby to an RBC Cup victory in 2006.

Chris Crowell captained the Vernon Vipers to Fred Page, Doyle and RBC Cup wins this spring, and is now in his freshman season with the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves (NCAA Division I). Crowell played 213 BCHL games -- all with the Vipers -- and totalled 33 goals and 90 points. He enjoyed a breakout season offensively in his final year in the league, scoring 12 goals and adding 31 assists.

Mark McKamey captained his hometown team in his final BCHL season, helping to lead the Powell River Kings to a Coastal Conference champioship and a Fred Page Cup finals appearance. McKamey played 192 games over four seasons with the Kings, scoring 11 goals and totalling 33 points. The 21-year old is currently in his first season with Wentworth Leopards (NCAA Division III).

Jordan Inglis is now in his second season with the University of British Columbia Thuderbirds (CIS). Inglis played the 2007/08 season with Wayne State (NCAA Division I), transferring to UBC after the hockey program folded. The 23-year old played his final season on junior hockey with the Prince George Spruce Kings, scoring 21 goals and 47 points in 56 games.

Grassi, Crowell, McKamey and Inglis join five other previous recipients of the scholarship who will continue to receive funds during the 2009/10 season. With their most recent awards, the scholarship fund has now assisted former BCHL players with more than $260,000 in funding for post-secondary education.
