2011 RBC Cup not coming to Summerside

Site Selection Committee wants to start another bidding process

The Summerside Western Capitals will not be hosting the 2011 RBC Cup. Hockey Canada announced Thursday the 2011 RBC Cup will not be awarded to either of the final two communities that had submitted bids. Instead the Site Selection Committee wants to re-enter into the bidding process for the 2011 RBC Cup because of concerns raised by the Summerside Western Capitals’ actions at the 2009 Royal Bank Cup in Victoria, B.C.Following discussions with Hockey Canada and the City of Summerside, the Summerside Western Capitals decided, because of the late date, not to re-enter into the bidding process for the 2011 Royal Bank Cup but to concentrate their efforts in entering and hopefully winning the process for 2012.“At this time the Summerside Western Capitals, although we understand the concerns of Hockey Canada, are extremely disappointed with the decision that was made on this event,” noted the team’s general manager Gabe Keough.“We will endeavour to continue to grow junior hockey within the city and our league and look forward to 2010 hockey season and to proving to Hockey Canada that the level of professionalism that we operate with is second to none.”The Summerside Western Capitals staff, in partnership with the City of Summerside and the local host committee, are currently working on the 2009 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge which they are hosting in November.
