Cougars and Raiders Swap Forwards, Draft Picks
by Andy Neal
The Prince George Cougars have acquired 19-year old forward James Dobrowolski from the Prince Albert Raiders, in exchange for 18-year old forward Justin Maylan.
The two clubs also swapped picks in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, as the Cougars get the Raiders fourth round selection, while the Cougars sixth round pick heads to PA. Dobrowolski finished his second season with the Raiders in 2008-09, posting 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points while playing in each of the Raiders 72 regular season games and the Raiders tie-breaking game against Edmonton. The 6’2”, 180 pound product of Vernon, BC has collected 17 goals and 25 assists in 139 career WHL games.
“We’re really looking forward to adding James’ size and skill into our line-up for next season,” said Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson. “His presence will help open up some ice for our skilled guys to work with.”
Justin Maylan played 101 regular season games in a Prince George Cougars jersey, scoring 22 goals and adding 25 assists over that time, after being acquired from the Moose Jaw Warriors during the 2007-08 season. Maylan added one assist in four playoff games.
James Dobrowolski played 3 games as an "AP" with the BCHL Vernon Vipers during the 2006-07 season. Dobrowolski also plays lacrosse with current Vernon Vipers forward, Rob Short & the Vernon Tigers. In 9 regular season games this season, Dobrowolski recorded 5 goals-7 assists good for 12 points. For more on Dobrowolski and the Tigers, check out their website,
