Vernon Vipers forward Sahir Gill has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending April 12th, the league announced Tuesday.
Gill netted two goals and added a pair of assists in four games last week and was responsible for a crucial overtime goal that will be remembered as a turning point in Vernon's Fred Page Cup series win over Powell River.
On Wednesday, Gill was named the game's first star after he scored at the 5:31 mark of triple overtime to put Vernon ahead by a 3-1 count in the series. One night earlier, the 16-year old assisted on both Vipers goals and picked up a third star nod in a 3-2 loss.
The Terrace, B.C. native totalled eight goals and nine assists in 17 playoff games, building on a rookie season in which put up 39 points as one of the youngest players in the league.
Gill and the Vipers have advanced to the Doyle Cup against the Grand Prairie Storm, which begins Friday night at the Vernon Civic Arena.
