On This Day In Vernon Canadians History:

Forty seven years ago today (June 16th 1979) The Vernon Daily News released an article stating the Vernon Canadians were in trouble and the future of the hockey team is uncertain. A group of local businessmen that purchased the hockey team before the 1978-79 season have said they will not operate the team in the 1979-80 season.

The Vernon Canadians were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since joining the league in 1961. The Vernon Canadians were around for the 1978-79 season, took a leave of absence for the 1979-80 season, before re-joining the league as the Vernon Lakers for the 1980-81 season.
