On This Day In Vernon Canadians History:

Forty eight years ago today (June 9th 1978) The Vernon Canadians named Greg Kvisle the teams new Head Coach. This will be the teams first season under the new name "Canadians" after the team was previously called the Vernon Vikings from 1973-1978. Kvisle and the Canadians finished the 1978-79 regular season with a 32-29-1 record, lost in 5 games to Kamloops in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Vernon Canadians were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since joining the league in 1961. The Vernon Canadians were around for the 1978-79 season as the team took a leave of absence during the 1979-80 season, before re-joining the league as the Vernon Lakers for the 1980-81 season.
