made their second straight trip to the National Championship, winning their first National Championship as the host team with a 6-5 overtime victory over the New Westminster Royals in Vernon, BC

The Vernon Lakers were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team had since joining the league in 1961. The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995.
