This team deserves credit for their competitive level in this series. But really that was expected, wasn’t it? I mean, they’ve worked hard in most games this year. They havent always played smart hockey, though. Too many giveaways in the neutral zone or at the two blue lines. But for the most part they protected the puck reasonably well in this series. And the special teams were indeed special. I don’t know about you, but I’m amazed that so far they have the best PK AND the best PP in the playoffs. Will they maintain that special team dominance vs. The Vees? Doubtful. But stranger things have happened. Hopefully, Viper fans will show up in large numbers for the next series.

I was definitely not expecting the vipers to make it past the first round in any universe. That first and second line really stepped up it would appear

I watched the game online and didn't see this one coming. I was expecting the Wild to push hard and try and force a Game 6 in front of a loud crowd. What a start and what a game for the Vipers! I sure hope Ryan Shostak is ok. He has really stepped up his play and played well in the playoffs. For a team that had troubles scoring all regular season, had troubles playing sixty minutes, were inconsistent all season, were up and down, and showed little signs of improvement from the start of the season, the Vipers sure surprised not only myself but I'm sure a lot of Viper fans with not only tonight's game but the entire series. After and up and down regular season, full of inconsistency, a lack of scoring and the way they finished the regular season, I didn't see this team getting past the first round or going far in the playoffs. Give these kids credit for playing there best hockey of the season, and when it counts. A big congratulations to the Vernon Vipers and the entire organization. With the win, the Vipers advance to the second round vs the Penticton Vees. Vernon went 2-5 vs Penticton this season. Game 1 goes Friday in Penticton.

After the Buzzer – Vipers Move On With 8-3 In Wenatchee

March 7, 2020

Wenatchee, WA, USA: The Vernon Vipers put up 8 goals to punch their ticket to the second round of the BCHL Playoffs as they downed the Wild 8-3.

The Vipers jumped out to an early lead just 23 seconds into the period as Logan Cash intercepted a puck and snapped a shot five hole on Daniel Chenard to make it 1-0. The Vipers added to their lead a few minutes later as Cam MacDonald won a battle down low, centered in front and Hunter Donohoe’s point shot was able to get through traffic to make it 2-0 on Donohoe’s first of the playoffs. The Vipers had a great look on a powerplay where they dominated for the full 2 minutes, but hit a goal post and narrowly missed to keep it 2-0. Their second powerplay however lasted just 5 seconds as Cam MacDonald powered a one timer home for his 4th in as many period to make it 3-0. Nick Cafarelli made it 3-1 with a great individual effort at 16 minutes. The Wild then got a powerplay and it was Reilly Herbsts time to shine as he stopped all 6 shots he faced as the period would finish 3-1 Vernon.

The Wild made it 3-2 early in the period after Ryan Shostak was downed at the blue line. Play continued and Matt Dorsey snapped home his first of the playoffs. The Vipers rebounded nicely with a powerplay, but couldn’t increase their lead. They came within a hair of making it 4-2 with a puck that rolled through Altman but died on the line. The Vipers found their legs midway through the period and finally were able to get their lead back to two as a point shot from Nick Kent was blocked, but Colby Feist jumped on a rebound in front for his first of the playoffs to make it 4-2. From there the Vipers continued to get chances, but the period expired with a 4-2 lead after 2.

The Vipers jumped on the offense early in the third as a Nick Kent point shot was deflected by Connor Marritt in front of the net to make it 5-2. Trey Taylor finished off a nice passing play to make it 6-2. The Wild would put Daniel Chenard back in goal following that goal. Brett Chorske scored his first goal of the playoffs on a shot from the left wall. With 3 minutes left the Wild would pull the goalie in an effort to get the game closer. Cam MacDonald hit the empty net to make it 7-3. The Vipers had a powerplay late in the period and Hunter Donohoe was able to walk in from the left circle and snapped home his 2nd of the game to make it 8-3.

The Vipers will now wait to learn their schedule, but know they will start on the road against the Penticton Vees.

Im in total shock that the Vipers defeated Wenatchee in 5 games. The Vipers will definitely need more secondary players to step up in the next round vs the Vees to have any chance of defeating the Vees but as history shows the Vipers play their best against them. Looks like Tuesday and Wednesday will be the home dates so hopefully fans in Vernon will get out and support the Vipers

Not much noise from the haters who are boycotting the games and McKee and the owners. Wonder why that is? Lol

Lol they just got passed the first round I wouldn't start making fun of the "haters" quite yet. Half the league makes it to the second round.

Frank... thank you for your comment. It is nice that the Vipers have fans who see "rainbows & lollipops" and not notice "reality". The boycotters you are referring to may not even be following the Vipers now and possibly not even seeing your comments. Regardless, it is rude to call other fans haters simply because they see the games in a different way than you. Fact is that the Vipers have played very inconsistently this year and some fans just get too frustrated to be fully engaged. This team has a lot of areas of concern, mostly in their own defensive zone, but it is too late to make changes. Let's all "agree to disagree" but get behind them and give them encouragement & support. Win or lose, they are still amazing young men who have all sacrificed a lot to play here. GO VIPERS GO!!!

Gimme a break....these comment boards are lit up every time the vipers lose with the usual suspects blaming everybody and everything....then they go on a bit of a winning streak and its nothing but crickets in here.

Let's be honest, nobody expected them to make it out of this round, especially doing it in 5 games and dominating in the final game in Wenatchee. Anyone who thought otherwise is full of it, and sure hasn't voiced it here.

It's much easier to have something to complain about, then looking at the positive. Loyal fans stick around through thick and thin and can often see the forest for the trees.

Rude to call people haters? Perhaps....but I would consider it more rude calling out the head coach and owners and insulting them on a personal level on these comment boards.

Anyways...I'm excited to cheer on these young men win or lose. Go Vipers!

“... with the usual suspects blaming everybody and everything”. Wonder who this is referring to considering just about everyone comments as “Anonymous”. Perhaps some of the “haters” have seen the error of their ways and are now back on the bandwagon, thus the “crickets”.

vipersdiehardfan said...

This is why I would like fans to use a name/or nickname instead of using "Anonymous" This way we know who's saying what and can reply to that poster.

The 5th place team beats the 4th place team and everything is a bed of roses....lol! Penticton and Trail are the cream of the crop, the rest are just cannon fodder!

Anonymous said...

If you want people to use a name or nickname don't have the anonymous option when posting! I think you will find if you do this your posts will decline as people do not want to be attacked for their personal opinions, which they are entitled to in this forum!

Frank Quitely said...

"Cannon Fodder"....your probably right. But considering most weren't expecting the snakes to get out of this round....I'm happy to be seeing another round of hockey.
I'm not expecting vipers to get out of this next round, but anything is possible.

I can only imagine the comments section here if Vernon lost this series....it would be nothing but comments of firing the coach, how the owners don't respect the long term fans, blah blah blah ad nauseum.

I'm enjoying the ride, and looking forward to the future and seeing what's in store for the team.

Go Vipers!

I agree everyone is entitled to their opinions. I try to never take things personally on message boards like this. I think arguments and disagreements are what it's all about! It would be pretty boring if we all agreed on the same things around here.

Everyone sees the game a different way, and that keeps things interesting!

Regarding nicknames....I agree it would be helpful to just use a name of some sort...it doesn't have to be your real name. But it's easier to reply to "Frank" than to anonymous. Even as just a point of reference.

On another note, I personally think there would be way more comments if we didn't have to wait for them to be approved by the site moderator. It's hard to engage in conversation type discussion if the comments aren't published for a couple of hours.
More discussion equals more traffic to this site.
Just my personal thoughts.
Go Vipers!

If it wasn't for VDHF you wouldn't have a Vipers blog to read or comment about so consider yourself lucky because no other team in the BCHL has a site like this. If you're looking for something else Frank may I suggest you go to the BCHL Message Board on Tapatalk and you'll get what you're looking for.

There's no need to be hostile Bobby, Frank was just expressing his opinion calm down vdhf can speak for himself

I believe it is necessary for approval by our blog site super as young kids could be following this and who knows what type of rude suggestions or foul language could be used. There are people out there you get there kicks by putting things forward that should be considered just wrong. Anyway Go,Vipers,Go.

vipersdiehardfan said...

I don't expect people to use there real name when posting comments. I have noticed fans have had trouble replying to someone's comments when there user name is "Anonymous" Because most of the people that post comments on here use the name "Anonymous" It's hard to follow who is who. It would be much better if fans would make some kind of a nickname so others could reply to that person. How about Vipers fan, Vipers season ticket holder, or Snakes supporter, you can make almost any kind of nickname and it doesn't have to be Viper related. Heck you could call yourself Wayne Gretzky if you wanted too. It's just a suggestion. Thanks to everyone who does take part in leaving comments, as it makes this blog more interesting and keeps fans coming back.

I apologise to any fans who have to wait for there comments to be published. The reason why I monitor the comments is not only for spam but for inappropriate comments. I first created and started this blog in November 2008 and I use to get several spam comments daily from different foreign countries in different languages. Over the years those spam comments have slowly disappeared. I may get one or two in a year now. Due to the fact that I don't know the age group of my viewers and who my viewers actually are, I want to make sure any inappropriate comments don't get posted for fans to see. I understand fans have there own opinion, but what I don't want is foul language and or derogatory comments towards players, coaches, owners, other fans etc. Other then only a few inappropriate comments that I was forced to delete and not publish, the fans and viewers who have been responding with comments/or suggestions etc have been very well behaved. I try my best to stay on top of posting comments as soon as they come in, but I can't always be near or on my computer 24/7. I thank you for your cooperation & please keep the suggestions and comments coming. Thank you for visiting my blog.
