January 6, 2020

Penticton Vees forward Jackson Niedermayer has been named the Subway BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5.

The 18-year-old had five goals and one assist in Penticton’s three games last week, including his first-career BCHL hat trick.

After going pointless in the Vees’ New Years Day win over the Vernon Vipers, Niedermayer caught fire on Friday against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, scoring twice in his team’s 5-2 win. The following night, he notched a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and added an assist as Penticton cruised to an 8-4 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies. He was named the game’s first star.

It appears as though Porter has become yet another " Gary Suitcase Smith " ( or modern-day Podkolzin ). Surely his development has been hampered by the frequent jersey changes he has been subjected to this season . Could the Jr. clubs involved in these dizzying transactions ( Vipes included ), not have left him in one place for the season ?

Fyi the Vipers had absolutely no control on where he played. His rights were owned by the Rockets, Warriors and then Spokane where there was an opportunity for him to play again in the WHL , which is what he wanted.
