Vipers Move Cherkowski to Wenatchee

September 17, 2019

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers have made a trade with the Wenatchee Wild.

The Vipers have moved 19 year old forward Nick Cherkowski to the Wild in exchange for future considerations.

“Nick will get a great opportunity for an expanded role in Wenatchee,” says Head Coach and GM of the Vipers Jason McKee.  “They have a great program there and he will have a chance to make an impact.”

The Vipers would like to thank Nick for his time with the Vipers and wish him the best with Wenatchee.

I liked Nicholas Cherkowski but his downside was he was inconsistent last year. I was surprised he got a scholarship last season, so early into his first season with the Vipers. I thought he really picked up his game and was more consistent in the playoffs last year. Coming into training camp this year, it looked like he bulked up a bit and was one of the better Vipers in camp and a few exhibition games. Being a second year player and a 19 yr old, I was expecting more from Cherkowski this year. After going pointless in three games this year, for whatever reason the Vipers made the deal today.

Do the Vipers have someone in place, to replace Cherkowski? It's odd they didn't make a deal and get a player in return. The Snakes are down to 22 players with an open roster spot. With the Western Hockey League regular season starting this weekend, and teams making there final cuts, will the Vipers pick up one of these left overs? Or will we see another trade on the way shortly?

Will Cherkowski report to Wenatchee? Being from here, will he want to stay close to home? Will we see him with the Vees, Warriors or even Silverbacks soon?

A good trade for the Vipers & for Nicholas. He is a big guy, can skate and yet struggles to put points on the board. Possibly it is due to being from Vernon & he feels expectations to produce. He has a scholarship & needs to just relax, work hard & not try to be a hometown hero. I believe he will have a good season in Wenatchee once he settles in. All the best Nicholas, you are a class act.

I am sure Jason has a replacement in mind. The Vipers do not currently have a full compliment of 20 year olds and I believe they will bring in a WHL player to fill the roster spot. Stay tuned.
