BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – On Monday, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Alaska hockey's freshman defenseman Chris Jandric the Rookie of the Week. It is the Alaska Nanooks hockey team's second weekly honor of the 2018-19 season and C. Jandric's first of his career.

The Nanooks faced the Lake Superior State Lakers in a two-game WCHA series on the road last weekend, earning a 3-3 overtime tie on Friday, earning an extra conference point with a goal in double-overtime, before defeating the Lakers 4-3 on Saturday for Alaska's first victory of the season. The Nanooks walked away from the UP with five WCHA points, ranking them eighth in the league standings.

C. Jandric led all WCHA defensemen and all league rookies (of any position) with a combined four points through last weekend's series, tallying two goals and two assists. Of his four points, three came on the power play, while the Prince George, British Columbia native also lit the lamp on two of his three shots.

On Friday, C. Jandric assisted on junior forward Troy Van Tetering's goal before netting his own on the power play to give the Nanooks a 3-0 lead. C. Jandric's first collegiate goal was assisted by his older brother, sophomore forward Steven Jandric.

Down 3-2 on Saturday, C. Jandric had the primary assist on S. Jandric's game-tying goal at 10:55 of the third period before scoring the game-winning, power play goal with only 1:15 remaining in regulation to lift the Nooks past the Lakers.

Nationally, C. Jandric's four points over the weekend tied for second among NCAA freshmen and third for a blueliner (of any class).

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team returns to the Carlson Center next week, hosting the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in a two-game WCHA series on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. Puck-drop both nights is scheduled for 7:07pm AKST.
