Vipers and Grizzlies Swing Deal
Wednesday, October 8, 2014
The Vipers have acquired 18 year old defenceman Mitch Meek, 20 year old defenceman Brandon Egli and future considerations in exchange for
defenceman Jake Emilio and forward Ayden MacDonald.
Meek and Egli are both veterans of the BCHL having appeared in a combined 211 games. Meek was in his third season with Victoria having recorded one goal and one assist in 6 games. The product of Victoria is committed to Clarkson for 15-16. Egli is coming off his most productive season as a junior having put up 11 goals and 35 points last season for the Grizzlies. He has appeared in two games this season following his return from the USHL, he is committed to U-Mass for next season.
Emilio and Macdonald were in their first seasons in the BCHL. Macdonald(18) from Langley was in his rookie campaign appearing in 5 games he did not record a point. Emilio(20) registered one assist in 7 games after joining the Vipers in the off season from the OJHL.
Head Coach Mark Ferner says this was a difficult move to make. “Both Jake and Ayden are quality people and it makes the move difficult however this is a trade that gives us a couple more veteran bodies on the back end and really improves our depth.”
Meek and Egli are expected to make their Vernon debut on Friday night when the Vipers host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at 7pm. The Vipers would like to welcome Brandon and Mitch and wish Ayden and Jake the best of luck in the future. For more information please call the Viper office at 250-542-6022

After just one win in their last four games and near the bottom of the standings you knew Mark Ferner wasnt going to stick with his current roster for too long. Changes were coming.
I remember the names of the two new defencemen but with Victoria only coming to Vernon once a season its hard to really recall what kind of players the Vipers are getting.
I like the fact that the Vipers are adding some veteran leadership and experience to the blueline. The Vipers with only five returning players from last season needed a few more experienced d-men on the backend.
I really liked Jake Emilio and thought he was one of the better Vernon defencemen this season. I really liked the play and hustle of Ayden MacDonald during Training camp and even in the pre-season but MacDonald hasnt done much in the regular season. With no points I was expecting him to use his weight a little more, drive to the net more, giving the other goaltender havoc. I thought the last few games MacDonald was just another body skating around.
Looking forward to seeing the two new players in the lineup tonight.
I wonder what ever happened with Mitch Friesen & Mark O'Shaughnessy?
