The Vernon Vipers want to show their fans a little love.
And, at the same time, plug the 2014 RBC Cup national Junior A hockey championship tournament set for May at Kal Tire Place.
On Friday, the Vipers will host a fan appreciation event prior to their B.C. Hockey League exhibition contest that night against the West Kelowna Warriors.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., the Vipers and Save-On-Foods will host a tailgate party barbecue in the parking lot.
Entertainment will be provided by Kiss-FM and Bounce Hire will have a Bounce Castle inflated for the kids.
Fans will have a chance to meet this year’s Vipers squad who will be present before heading to the team dressing room to prepare for the 7 p.m. exhibition game against West Kelowna.
The tailgate party will also include events organized by the host RBC Cup committee, including the opportunity to visit with committee members.
There will be information about the history of the Centennial and RBC Cup and Vernon’s successful record, which includes nine appearances and six national championships.
There will be a chance to visit with former Vernon Lakers and Vipers players and coaches.
Fans will be asked to share information and memorabilia for the Greater Vernon Museum’s history of hockey display.
There will be draws for (former Viper) Aaron Volpatti “I Support The RBC Cup” T-shirts and there will be a special showing of memorable Centennial and RBC Cup goals scored by Cam Sylven, Kyle Bigos, Connor Jones and Kellen Jones.
