Soleway to join men's hockey for 2013-14
Fourth incoming frosh signs National Letter of Intent
May 29, 2013
MADISON, Wis. -- The first thought that may come to mind this fall, should one run into the latest Wisconsin men's hockey signee, is that he got lost on the way to Camp Randall Stadium and somehow ended up at the Kohl Center.
The 6-2, 208-pound Jedd Soleway casts an imposing figure and looks more like a linebacker than an ice skating hockey forward.
"Jedd is a power forward," says Wisconsin men's hockey head coach Mike Eaves. "He has a really good presence in the corners and in front of the net. He is also very good on faceoffs."
Soleway used his size to a stellar second-half of the season last year with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League. The right-handed shot joined the Vees after a midseason trade from the Vernon Vipers. He totaled 19 goals and 46 points in 48 regular-season games for the season, posting 14 of those goals and 29 of those points in 22 games with Penticton. He helped the squad to an Interior Division title. He had five goals and 17 points in 26 games with Vernon.
Penticton made the BCHL playoffs, where Soleway tied for ninth in the league with 11 points in 15 games. He tallied five goals, including one power-play goal and a game-winner during the team's playoff run. The team reached the BCHL championship, but fell to the Surrey Eagles.
During the 2011-12 campaign with Vernon, Soleway finished with 13 goals and 25 points in 58 contests.
A Vernon, British Columbia native, Soleway is the fourth student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent for the 2013-14 school year. He joins forwards Grant Besse (Plymouth, Minn.) and Corbin McGuire (Ridgefield, Conn.), as well as defenseman Tim Davison (De Pere, Wis.), among those who have signed at Wisconsin as part of the incoming class.
