Vipers sign veteran WHL winger
Published: October 15, 2012
The offensive-challenged Vernon Vipers have signed veteran Western Hockey League forward Cody Fowlie.
Fowlie, a 6-foot, 205-pound native of Airdrie, Alta., supplied 14 goals and 40 points playing a full 72 games with the Everett Silvertips last season.
He had 7-8-15 in 70 games as a rookie with Everett, and had two assists in seven games with the Tips this season.
Fowlie was released last Thursday when the Tips claimed 20-year-old defenceman Connor Cox off waivers, from the Saskatoon Blades, during the overage cut-off draft. Each team is allowed three overagers.
Fowlie, who turns 20 next month, skated with the Vipers for the first time Monday afternoon, and should be in the lineup Wednesday night when Vernon hosts the Merritt Centennials.
Head coach/GM Jason Williamson said more deals are in the works for the Vipers, tied for last place in the BCHL Interior Division with the Salmon Arm SilverBacks.
