2012-2013 Preseason All-American Team
First Team
West
F. - Nick Bjugstad - Minnesota (JR.)
Bjugstad scored 25 goals last season for a resurgent Gopher squad despite being banged up for most of the second half of the season. Look for the Gopher Junior to pile up goals this season.
F. - T.J. Tynan - Notre Dame (JR.)
In a disappointing season in South Bend, Tynan was a bright spot putting up 41 points. We expect Tynan to get Notre Dame back in the NCAA Tournament with another stellar season.
F. - Mark Zengerle - Wisconsin (JR.)
The nation's top returning point scorer, Zengerle is arguably the best playmaker in college hockey. With a strong lineup in Madison, we expect Zengerle to pile up the points.
D. - Nick Jensen - St. Cloud State (JR.)
Jensen dominated along the blueline last season en route to 32 points, and looks to do so again, as the Huskies feature one of the nation's top defensive corps.
D. - Joey LaLeggia - Denver (SO.)
The top freshman in the WCHA, LaLeggia surprised many with his point outburst last season. We expect the Pioneer blueliner to fill up the stat sheet once again this season.
G. - Frank Slubowski - Western Michigan (SO.)
Slubowski won nearly 60% of his games as a freshman, and with one of the top bluelines playing in front of him in Kalamazoo, we look for the Sophomore to dominate the opposition this year.
Second Team
West
F. - Erik Haula - Minnesota (JR.)
The top returning point scorer for arguably the country's best team, the Finnish sensation looks to build on last year's great season en route to a return trip to the Frozen Four.
F. - Danny Kristo - North Dakota (SR.)
While many thought Kristo would leave for the pros this offseason, the Minnesota native came back to Grand Forks, and we expect him to have a monster season for North Dakota.
F. - Alex Guptill - Michigan (SO.)
It is not often that a freshman leads the Wolverines in scoring, but that is exactly what Guptill did last season. We look for him to repeat as top scorer in Ann Arbor again this season.
D. - Jon Merrill - Michigan (JR.)
While Merrill played only half the season last year, look for the Junior blueliner to be a force in the last season of the CCHA, as Merrill will help lead Michigan to another NCAA Tourney.
D. - Dan DeKeyser - Western Michigan (JR.)
DeKeyser is the key returning piece to the Bronco blueline that is expected to be one of the top units in the country. We expect the Junior to have a tremendous season in Kalamazoo.
G. - Kevin Kapalka - Lake Superior State (JR.)
The Lakers will need all the help they can get in net this season, and fortunately for LSSU, they return one of the top goaltenders in the country in Kevin Kapalka.
East
F. - Johnny Gaudreau - Boston College (SO.)
Gaudreau helped propel the Eagles to the National Title last season, and we expect the BC Sophomore to pile up the points as the Eagles skate for back-to-back titles.
F. - Scott Wilson - Massachusetts Lowell (SO.)
Wilson was a key player in the emergence of Lowell as a power out East last season. Look for Wilson to only get better this season and lead the Riverhawks back to the NCAA Tourney.
F. - Brett Gensler - Bentley (JR.)
Gensler snuck up on many last year, but will not be able to do so this season. The top returning point scorer in the nation looks to lead Bentley to their first NCAA Tournament this season.
D. - Garrett Noonan - Boston University (JR.)
Noonan's 16 goals last season (8 on the PP) were impressive. We expect the Junior to continue to light up the lamp from the blueline this season en route to a stellar 2012-2013 campaign.
D. - Danny Biega - Harvard (SR.)
Biega had a tremendous junior season, and comes back to Harvard looking for more. We expect Biega to be a darkhorse Hobey candidate, and help Harvard get back to the NCAAs.
G. - Troy Grosenick - Union (JR.)
Grosenick dazzled in net for the Dutchmen last season, and while Union lost a lot of talent, the Junior netminder returns for what should be another exciting season for this strong program.
East
F. - Joey Diamond - Maine (SR.)
As a Junior, Diamond scored 25 goals for Maine. As a Senior, we expect Diamond to continue lighting the lamp for the Black Bears, as Maine looks to return to the NCAA Tournament.
F. - Matt Nieto - Boston University (JR.)
Nieto is the top returning scorer for the Terriers, and we expect the Junior to have another great season for BU. He will need to if the Terriers wish to get back to the NCAA tourney.
F. - Daniel Carr - Union (JR.)
Carr had a tremendous sophomore campaign (20-20-40) for the Dutchmen, and we expect Carr to improve on that pace for Union in the upcoming season.
D. - Mat Bodie - Union (JR.)
Bodie was a key figure for the Dutchmen during last season's run to the Frozen Four, and we expect the blueliner to have another great campaign in the 2012-2013 season.
D. - Nick D'Agostino - Cornell (SR.)
We expected D'Agostino to have a stellar Junior campaign, and while it was not as impressive as we though, we feel that the Senior will shine for Cornell this season.
G. - Andy Iles - Cornell (JR.)
Iles played every minute for the Big Red last season, and he was impressive throughout the year. We expect nothing less this season, as Iles looks to lead Cornell to the Frozen Four.
Honorable Mention
West
G - Sam Brittain - Denver (JR.)
D - Andrew MacWilliam - North Dakota (SR.)
D - Nate Schmidt - Minnesota (JR.)
F - Ben Hanowski - St. Cloud State (SR.)
F - Kyle Rau - Minnesota (SO.)
F - Chase Balisy - Western Michigan (JR.)
East
G - Parker Milner - Boston College (SR.)
D - Nick Bailen - Rensselaer (SR.)
D - Trevor van Riemsdyk - New Hampshire (SO.)
F - Greg Miller - Cornell (SR.)
F - Kyle DeLaurell - Air Force (SR.)
F - Steven Whitney - Boston College (SR.)
