The Millionaires have sent second year forward Roger Tagoona to the Battlefords North Stars, in exchange for 20-year-old goaltender Blake Voth.
Tagoona was Melville's top rookie last season, recording 40 points (13g-27a) in 57 games, but has been held to 3 points in 15 games this season.
As for Voth, the Herbert, SK product spent two seasons with the BCHL's Vernon Vipers, and went to the RBC Cup in both campaigns. The Vipers won their second straight RBC in Voth's rookie year, and lost in last year's National Final to Pembroke.
In his rookie season, after the Vipers' #1 goalie went down with an injury, Voth stepped in and wound up breaking the BCHL's all-time record for Goals Against Average (1.79), while going 21-and-2.
Last year, he was 25-11-3 in the regular season, before Kirby Halcrow got hot down the stretch and saw the bulk of the action in the playoffs.
At last year's trade deadline, the Battlefords North Stars traded forward Dane Muench to Vernon for future considerations, which wound up being the Junior 'A' rights to Voth.
Voth landed a tryout with the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks, and appeared in two games, before being released.
And, with the way Graham Hildebrand and Connor Creech are playing in the Battlefords, there was no reason for the North Stars to mess with a good thing.
The trade will also leave less on the plate of rookie Alex Wakaluk, who's shown he can push any veteran for minutes, and I'm sure he'll do the same with Voth.
