Former Vernon Vipers defenceman, Kyle Bigos is one of ten Merrimack Warriors who have been named to the Hockey East All-Academic team. Bigos played two seasons in Vernon (2007-2009).

Ten Named to Hockey East All-Academic Team

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Ten players from the 2010-11 Merrimack hockey team were named to the Hockey East All-Academic team.
Merrimack has the fourth-most players represented, led by Ryan Flanigan (Rochester, NY), who was named to the Hockey East Academic All-Star team with a 3.88 GPA, second highest among all of the league's forwards. Flanigan, an assistant captain for 2011-12, is a three-time Hockey East All-Academic honoree.
Also selected to the squad for the third time are graduating seniors Chris Barton (Calgary, AB), Adam Ross (Red Deer, AB) and Francois Ouimet (Lorraine, QC). John Jamieson (Billerica, MA), who also graduated in May, was named to the team for the second time.
Five Warriors, Bobby Kramer (New York, NY), Jeff Velleca (Waterbury, CT), Kyle Bigos (Upland, CA), Jordan Heywood (Regina, SK), and Tom McCarthy (Maple Grove, MN), were selected to the team for the first time.
In all, 85 student-athletes were named to the 2010-11 All-Academic team. Each student-athlete achieved a grade-point-average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods of the 2010-11 season.
The hockey program is also a finalist for the highest team GPA award at Merrimack for 2010-11, along with the soccer and track programs.
