Collins Named Rookie of Week; Hockey 12th Nationally
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Following the first seven-win month since joining Hockey East and a home weekend sweep of Vermont, Mike Collins (Boston, MA) was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week while Merrimack moved up 12th nationally.
Collins picked up his first career hat trick and a career-high four points in a 7-1 victory in front of a sellout crowd at Lawler Arena and a regional audience watching on NESN live across New England. He tallied two power play goals, as Joe Cucci (Melrose Park, IL) had four helpers (three on the power play), while Chris Barton (Calgary, AB) netted two goals and an assist, including his 100th career point.
With a 15-5-4 record, Merrimack ranked 12th in this week’s USCHO National Poll, its highest ranking ever. The Warriors are fourth in Hockey East with a 9-5-3 record, two points behind third-place Boston University with two games in hand.
Merrimack visits Northeastern Friday before hosting UMass Saturday at 7 p.m. as part of French-Canadian Night at Lawler Arena. Limited tickets for Saturday’s game are available online at merrimackathletics.com or by calling the ticket office at 978-837-5364.
Merrimack is also offering a special four-game ticket package that gives all fans tickets to all four remaining home games for the price of two games. The offer is good through Saturday and can be purchased only at the ticket office between 10 am and 4 pm.
