The Vernon Vipers are hoping a two-month B.C. Hockey League study session will yield a better result against the Salmon Arm SilverBacks tonight at Wesbild Centre.

The two clubs haven’t faced one another since opening weekend where the Vipers suffered a pair of 4-1 losses in a home-and-home series with the Gorillas.

The fourth-place ‘Backs (14-8) trail the second-place Vipers (12-5-1-5) by just two points in the Interior.

“We expect it to be a couple of good games. They’re just below us in the standings, so you can either separate yourself in the standings or you can fall behind,” said Vipers’ assistant coach Jason Williamson.

The Snakes are coming off a roller coaster weekend that saw them blow a three-goal lead to lose 4-3 in overtime to the Merritt Centennials. They recovered by stuffing the Prince George Spruce Kings 3-1 the following night.

Similarly, the Gorillas turned in a lacklustre performance in a 4-1 loss to the Prince George Spruce Kings before rebounding with a 5-4 overtime win against the Coquitlam Express.

Vernon, 6-1-0-3 in their last 10 games, will get a boost on the blueline as Adam Thompson is set to return after missing three games to attend his brother’s wedding in Mexico. However, the Vipers are without forward Pat McGillis, who has missed the last five games with an upper-body injury.
