Scofield deuce boosts Beavers

Vernon Viper grad Tyler Scofield scored once and set up another as the host Bemidji State Beavers clipped the Robert Morris Colonials 3-2 Saturday in the Central Hockey Association championship game.
Cody Bostock, a former Viper defenceman, also plays for the Beavers, who are based in Minnesota.
The 5-foot-8, 150-pound Scofield surpassed the 100-point career mark with the Beavers, becoming the sixth player in Bemidji State history to do so.
“He’s one of the most exciting players to ever put on a BSU jersey,” Bemidji State head coach Tom Serratore told the Bemidji Pioneer. “He is so competitive and so much fun to watch. I really believe if he was 5-foot-11 and weighed 180 pounds he’d make it in the National Hockey League.”
Scofield had one assist Friday night as the Beavers clipped the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers 4-1 in the CHA semifinal. Viper grad Andrew Coburn scored for the Chargers.
The Beavers are hoping to be selected to earn a spot in the NCAA Division 1 round of 16 playoffs.
In WCHA quarterfinal action, the North Dakota Fighting Sioux swept the Michigan Tech Huskies 5-1 and 4-3 with Viper grads Chay Genoway (1A) and Matt Watkins helping the Sioux.
The Denver Pioneers swept the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 3-2 and 4-3 in other WCHA playoff action. Jon Olthius was in net for the Seawolves in Game 1, making 28 saves. Bryce Christianson recorded 21 stops in the second-game loss.
Hunter Bishop and the Ohio State Buckeyes lost 1-0 to the Alaska Nanooks in Game 3 of their CCHA quarterfinal series. Bishop had one assist as the Buckeyes bounced Alaska 4-2 in the second game Saturday. Alaska won the opener 4-0.
In Hockey East first-round playoff action, the Mass.-Lowell River Hawks swept the Vermont Catamounts 4-2 and 4-3 (OT) with ex-Viper Dean Strong scoring in both games for Vermont.
In the ECAC, it was the St. Lawrence Saints sweeping the Quinnipiac Bobcats by identical 5-3 counts. Mark Nelson scored once and Scott Zurevinski had one assist in the Bobcats' opening loss. Zurevinski scored in Game 2.
The Cornell Big Red clipped the RPI Engineers 4-3 Sunday to win that ECAC series in three games.
