On This Day In Vernon Canadians History:

Forty seven years ago today (June 16th 1979) The Vernon Daily News released an article stating the Vernon Canadians were in trouble and the future of the hockey team is uncertain. A group of local businessmen that purchased the hockey team before the 1978-79 season have said they will not operate the team in the 1979-80 season.

On This Day In Vernon Junior Hockey History:

Forty six years ago today (June 13th 1980) The Vernon Daily News released an article stating the BCJHL made an announcement earlier in the week, the league governors voted to readmit Vernon after a year leave of absence. The team at the time currently has yet to have a name. Vernon's previous junior hockey team (Vernon Canadians) last played during the 1979-80 season, took a leave of absence for the 1979-80 season.

On This Day In Vernon Canadians History:

Forty eight years ago today (June 9th 1978) The Vernon Canadians named Greg Kvisle the teams new Head Coach. This will be the teams first season under the new name "Canadians" after the team was previously called the Vernon Vikings from 1973-1978. Kvisle and the Canadians finished the 1978-79 regular season with a 32-29-1 record, lost in 5 games to Kamloops in the opening round of the playoffs.

Mick spent the past four seasons with the Wenatchee Wild/Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy as Hockey Director/Head Coach of the 18UAAA Wenatchee Wolves, 16UAAA Wenatchee Wilderness and Scout of the Wenatchee Wild.

Mick was named to the Portland Winterhawks Top 50 players of all time in October 2025. Mick played four seasons with the Western Hockey League Portland Winterhawks from 1985-1989. Mick holds two of the top 11 scoring seasons in Winterhawks history, and those 353 points still rank sixth on the club's all-time leaderboard - his 466 WHL points remains the league's 13th-highest total of all-time.

Mick has been involved in coaching with the Philadelphia Hockey Club 16U, Kootenay International Junior Hockey League & Western Hockey League with Revelstoke, Portland, Kamloops & Tri-Cities & in the BCHL with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks from 2012-2018 as General Manager, Head Coach and President and part owner.

Mick played three seasons of semi pro hockey in the IHL & ECHL from 1990-1993 before retiring from professional hockey due to injury. Mick was drafted in Round 7 130th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. 

Mick played two seasons in Vernon from 1984-1986 with the Vernon Lakers before being traded to the Merritt Warriors during the 1985-86 season. In 17 games with the Lakers, Mick collected (4-goals-8-assists-12-points). Mick was an Assistant Coach and in charge of marketing with the Vernon Lakers from 1993-1995 & an Assistant Coach with the 1995-96 Vernon Vipers before being named Head Coach/GM for the 1996-97 season & was Head Coach/GM of the Vernon Vipers from 1996-2000 before returning to Vernon as GM from 2005-2007.

Evers spent the past two seasons with the Penticton Vees. The Western Hockey League Penticton Vees signed Evers July 4th 2025. Evers had previously committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha for the 2025-26 season. In 67 games, Evers collected (35-goals-39-assists-74-points).
