Ex Vernon Viper Tambellini Named To Canada’s National Men’s Team:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Adam Tambellini is one of twenty two player's named to Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2019 Spengler Cup, Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.

Tambellini is in his first season with Modo Hockey. In 19 games this season, Tambellini has (15-goals-16-assists-31-points). Modo Hockey (or MODO with uppercase letters) is a professional ice hockey club in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. The team plays in Sweden's second-tier league HockeyAllsvenskan. The club was founded in March 1921 and has won two SHL championships; in 1979 and 2007.

Tambellini landed a tryout with the American Hockey League Stockton Heat in late September. Tambellini attended the Heat's training camp, also played in both Heat preseason games, collecting one goal and one assist was -2 was released prior to the start of the regular season.

Tambellini played last season with the Ottawa Senators affiliate American Hockey League Belleville Senators. In 72 games last season with Belleville Tambellini collected (13-goals-19-assists-32-points).

The Ottawa Senators made qualifying offers to all restricted free agents on their roster June 17th 2019 except Tambellini.

The Ottawa Senators signed Tambellini to a two-way, one-year contract July 25th 2018. Tambellini never played a game in Ottawa, was placed on waivers September 23rd 2018 played last season with the Senators affiliate American Hockey League Belleville Senators . Prior to joining the Senators Tambellini spent the previous three seasons with the American Hockey League Hartford Wolf Pack. 

Tambellini left the University of North Dakota in January 2014 for the Western Hockey League joining the Calgary Hitmen January 8th 2014 after being acquired in a trade with the Portland Winterhawks.

Tambellini played a season and a half in Vernon (2011-13) before being traded to Surrey on January 10th 2013 along with future considerations (Michael Roberts) for Mason Blacklock & future considerations (Jordan Klimek and Demico Hannoun). In 91 regular season games with the Vipers Tambellini collected (49-goals-46-assists-95-points). Tambellini was drafted 64th overall in the 3rd Round by the New York Rangers at the 2013 NHL Draft. Tambellini attended the New York Rangers 2014 Prospect Development Camp.

Tambellini scored the overtime winner October 1st 2011 in one of the Vipers biggest comeback's in recent years. The visiting Prince George Spruce Kings were leading 4-1 with less then three minutes remaining. The Vipers scored three goals in the final three minutes to force overtime, before Tambellini scored at 1:46 of overtime, giving Vernon a 5-4 overtime victory.

Hockey Canada selects 22 players for 2019 Spengler Cup

Canada looks to win 16th championship in Davos

CALGARY, Alta. – Twenty-two players will wear the Maple Leaf with Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2019 Spengler Cup, Dec. 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.

Canada will look to win the Spengler Cup, the oldest club tournament in the world, after a runner-up finish in 2018, and will attempt to secure its 16th championship with five players who were members of the 2018 squad – Chris DiDomenico (Woodbridge, Ont./SCL Tigers, NLA), Cory Emmerton (St. Thomas, Ont./Lausanne HC, NLA), Zach Fucale (Laval, Que./Orlando, ECHL), Maxim Noreau (Montreal/ZSC Lions, NLA) and Daniel Winnik (Toronto/Genève-Servette HC, NLA).

Player selections were made by general manager Sean Burke (Windsor, Ont./Montreal, NHL), management group member Shane Doan (Halkirk, Alta.) and director of hockey operations and assistant coach Misha Donskov (London, Ont./Vegas, NHL), with input from head coach Craig MacTavish (London, Ont.) and assistant coach Paul Coffey (Weston, Ont.).

“We are excited about this group; we believe we have assembled a team that combines experience from previous Spengler Cups with a group of new faces who will contribute to our success in Switzerland,” said Burke. “The Spengler Cup is always an exciting tournament with a rich history, and the opportunity to participate is a highlight of the season for our staff and players. We look forward to competing for another championship with this group.”

Since first taking part in 1984, Canada has won the Spengler Cup 15 times (1984, 1986, 1987, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017). It has also been the runner-up 10 times (1985, 1988, 1990, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2018).

Canada will open the 2019 Spengler Cup against HC Ocelari Trinec on Dec. 26 at 2:15 p.m. ET/11:15 a.m. PT before the 11-game schedule wraps up with the championship game on Dec. 31 at 6:10 a.m. ET/3:10 a.m. PT.
