Chad Brownlee Gets Stranded on Deserted Island in ‘The Way You Roll’ Video
Written by Lauren Laffer June 21, 2019
Canadian country star Chad Brownlee has been found washed up onshore of a deserted beach in the music video for his new single, “The Way You Roll.” The clip, which is exclusively premiering on Sounds Like Nashville, was filmed on Jekyll Island in Georgia and finds Brownlee in a true Cast Away situation.
The clip opens up with the former Vancouver Canucks draft pick facedown in the sand. After coming to, he sees a beautiful bikini-clad woman, played by Toronto-based lifestyle influencer Erin Fahey, making her way down the beach towards him. Unsure if she’s real or just a heat-driving mirage, Brownlee reaches out, touching her face.
The two then set off for a day filled of beach adventures, ending their day with a quiet moment on the sand. After falling asleep, he wakes up to find that Tom Hanks’ Cast Away castmate, Wilson the volleyball, has taken the place of his dream girl. Still hallucinating, Brownlee spends time with Wilson, having numerous conversations with the inanimate object.
The crooner is eventually found by a journeying beachgoer, who asks if Brownlee needs any assistance after finding him in a hallucinogenic state.
Sure to leave fans in stitches from the hilarity, the clip came from the comedic minds of Brownlee and video director Ben Knechtel of Silent K Productions.
“It feels like Ben and I are on a real ‘roll’ with these videos, as this was quite possibly the most fun I’ve had on a video shoot to date. The song is light-hearted and so were our spirits as all of us were immersed in the magic of Jekyll Island Georgia,” Brownlee shared with Sounds Like Nashville. “When I sat down with Gordie Sampson and Tawgs Salter to write this song, I wanted to write a song that made people feel like they were on a beach even if they weren’t actually standing somewhere with sand between their toes. I feel like this video is a perfect compliment to the song and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we did making it!”
Added Knechtel, “After working together last summer on his ‘Dear Drunk Me’ video, I was blown away with Chad’s ability to carry a comedic role on camera so we really wanted to shoot another video where we can tap into that funny side of him, and he did not disappoint. He killed it! He had us all in tears throughout the entire experience. I’m pretty sure we quoted (verbatim) every classic Jim Carrey comedy from the 90’s to help Chad prepare for this role. My face hurt from smiling so damn much by the end of the shoot.”
Brownlee is quickly becoming a household name in his native Canada, scoring his first No.1 song with “Forever’s Gonna Start Somewhere.” The singer hopes to expand into the states with the release of his new album, Back in The Game, which is set for release on June 21. “The Way You Roll” is the follow-up single to his chart topper and will be featured on the new record.
