News and highlights from around NCAA Division I Hockey featuring British Columbia Hockey League grads for the weekend of March 23rd to 29th:
NCAA Tournament -- Vermont vs. Yale/Air Force
Former Vernon Viper and current Catamounts captain Dean Strong is making the most of his final season at Vermont. Strong, who tallied 28 points in 39 games as a senior, is going to the Frozen Four after his team knocked off the ECAC and Atlantic Hockey champs.
On Friday, Vermont topped Yale by a 4-2 score, setting up a dramatic double-overtime thriller with Air Force. In that game, play continued for more than six minutes before a video review showed that Catamounts blueliner Dan Lawson had put a shot into the net -- and out through the mesh -- to win the game.
NCAA Tournament -- Boston University vs. Ohio State/New Hampshire
The Terriers opened the tournament with an impressive 8-3 win over former BCHLers Zac Dalpe, Hunter Bishop and Taylor Stefishen's Ohio State squad. In that game, Express grad Brandon Yip scored once and added an assist.
One night later, BU topped Salmon Arm SilverBacks alum Damon Kipp and New hampshire by a 2-1 margin.
Yip is joined by Trail Smoke Eaters grad Grant Rollheiser on the Terriers roster. Rollheiser has played 12 games in his freshman season while backing up starting goaltender Kieran Millan.
Vermont and Boston University will now meet in the Frozen Four semi-finals on Thursday, April 9th for a spot in the NCAA Division I National Championship two days later.
