The Vernon Vipers just got a whole lot deeper between the pipes.And if GM/head coach Mark Ferner’s move to acquire Graeme Gordon from the Merritt Centennials works as well as he’s hoping, it’ll give Vernon a potential No. 1 net detective next year, as current starter Andrew Hammond, 20, will graduate from the B.C. Hockey League.“We’ve had our eyes on Graeme for over a year now, since he played really well against us for the Salmon Arm SilverBacks last season,” said Ferner. “Graeme helps solidify our situation for next year. Andrew has been very good for us, but we can’t ride him for 60 games. When he needs a night off, Graeme will be there.”Gordon, 19, went 0-2 with the Cents this year, and ended up sitting after Harrison May took over Merritt’s starter duties.The 6-foot-2 North Vancouver product put up solid numbers (11-8-2, 3.26 GAA) with the SilverBacks before being dealt to Merritt last season.“I was ecstatic about it (the trade),” said Gordon, adding the competition between he and Hammond should be good for both of them. “I’m really glad to be on a good team and to be playing hockey again.”To acquire Gordon, the Vipers traded the rights to d-man Matt Cummings, who plays with the Prince George Cougars, and future considerations.Former backup Mark Segal, 17, has been reassigned to the Richmond Sockeyes of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League.
