Former Vernon Laker Jackson Named NCHC Herb Brooks Coach Of The Year:

Former Vernon Lakers forward Dane Jackson has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference Herb Brooks Coach of the Year.

Jackson is in his first season as Head Coach at the University of North Dakota has spent the past nineteen seasons at North Dakota as an Assistant Coach & Associate Head Coach. 

Jackson played four seasons at North Dakota from 1988-1992 before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Hamilton Canucks in 1992. Jackson was drafted 44th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in Round 3 at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Jackson played four seasons in the NHL with Vancouver, Buffalo & the New York Islanders from 1993-1998 before retiring from professional hockey in 2003.

Jackson played one season in Vernon with the 1987-88 Vernon Lakers. In 49 games with the Lakers, Jackson collected (24-goals-30-assists-54-points).

The Vernon Lakers were one of seven different names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995.
