Vernon Vipers Eligible Returnees:

The Vernon Vipers will open the 2025 preseason in less then a month and the team has yet to announce any player signings, player commitments and name anyone who is eligible to return from last season. I have decided to go through last years roster to see who is eligible to return for the 2025-26 season. I'm not including any players that were previously drafted by teams in the North American Hockey League and United States Hockey League Draft. This list could change as players move to other leagues, are drafted in other leagues, involved in trades, commit to college, quit hockey or decide not to return.

Defencemen:

Jett Quaschnick 08
Brock Heidecker 08
Edvin Nilsson 05

Forwards:

Nathaniel Harvey 06
Jackson DeGraves 07
Finn Kallay 07
Koji Gibson 07

Goaltenders:

Logan Cunningham 05

On June 1st 2025 the Vernon Vipers acquired the playing rights to 19 year old defenceman Landon Young and 18 year old goaltender Spencer Michnik from the Sherwood Park Crusaders as future considerations, completing a trade from February 9th 2025. On February 9th 2025 the Sherwood Park Crusaders acquired the playing rights to 20 year old defenceman Marko Stojkov from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for the playing rights of 19 year old defenceman Eddie Revenig and 17 year old forward Michael Munroe and future considerations.

As Old Mother Hubbard said "when she got there the cupboard was bare". An embarrassing low number of potential returnees showing what a mess this franchise is in. Cooke certainly has a lot of work to do. He is basically starting fresh as there is no guarantee that even this list of players will be here for him.

I think the culture of wanting to be a viper will change now with the knowledge that a fresh start with former NHLer coach Matt Cooke is in place as I believe the way they where treated in the past was not good to the point that last years players basically ignored the coaches. I believe now that the word is out that hockey players will be more attracted to becoming a viper as I feel the future players and returnees will believe there development of learning will be stronger for there future. Let us wait and see. GO,VIPERS,GO.

Eric Pastro? Munroe? Brassard ?

I thought Pastro had a scholarship for this season? I didn't include Munroe because he was drafted by the North American Hockey League New Hampshire Mountain Kings and Brassard was an AP

Pastro does have a commitment to Nebraska-Omaha. It was for 2025-26 (this fall) but it is now listed on collegecommitments.com as beginning in 2026-27, so maybe he will be back again. Somewhere.
