The season is a loss . The vipers will not make playoffs and if they some how get the last spot they will be out in the first round. The top 2 d-man knew this team is going no where and bolted , don’t blame You one bit Boys .
When has a team sport changed to being about two players? There are better d-man out there. It’s better they are gone especially if they were not happy.
I really liked McCloskey and Dowhaniuk. The Vipers only have five wins this season and now lose two veteran defencemen. A big blow to the Vipers defence, who are now left with 6 defencemen. Losing two veteran d-men will hurt as the team will be on the look out for yet another new player or players to fill their void. McCloskey and Dowhaniuk logged a lot of minutes and have been steady on the blueline. Dowhaniuk didn't play last weekend due to an illness and was missed in both games over the weekend.
It all comes down to recruiting and the Vipers didn't do a good enough job at recruiting or putting together a competitive team for this season. With all the trades, players being released and roster moves proves it.
Look at how many players are already gone from this season,
Forward 05 Adam Csabi (Returning from last season)
Forward 05 Sean Gibbons (Committed to the Vipers for 2024-25 season)
Forward 06 Kole Hyles (Committed to the Vipers for the 2024-25 season)
Forward 05 Kristian Lamanna (Signed with the Vipers July 19th 2024)
Forward 06 Bronson Ross (Returning from last season)
Forward 04 Carter Streek (Signed with the Vipers June 28th 2024)
Forward 05 Payton Struck (Returning from last season)
Defencemen 06 Roarke Gilmour (Signed with the Vipers August 15th 2024)
Defencemen 05 Isaac Holt (Signed with the Vipers May 25th 2024)
Defencemen 06 Vinny Ipri (Committed to the Vipers for 2024-25 season)
Defencemen 05 Carson Lloyd (Signed with the Vipers June 21st 2024)
Defencemen 05 Lucas McCloskey (Returning from last season)
Defencemen 04 Keaton Dowhaniuk (Acquired in trade with Victoria October 1st 2024)
From my count that is eight newly recruited players who did not make it two months with the team. This speaks loudly about the job done recruiting. Also says to future recruits you commit to us but we don't commit to you.
Heard over the past weekend that there are lots of unhappy players and that many wouldn't be back next year if the coaching didn't change. This could be the first of many players wanting out early.
Welcome, to the Independent BCHL!
Viper you forgot Linden Burrett who has 9 pts in 15 games traded out
The Viper/Laker hockey club used to be highly regarded and respected, Now it’s a joke . This entire organization needs a complete overhaul and it starts with the owners these Glens need to go , recruiting , coaches and ultimately a lot of current players . But until the first thing happens and you get a passionate hockey owner that understands what it means to be a viper it will be the interior basement unfortunately.
I didn’t forget about Linden Burrett. I didn’t list or mention players traded over the summer. I only listed players gone from the start of the 2024-25 season as in from training camp forward.
One of the problems is that many of the recruited players were sold a bill of goods regarding their roles. It’s an age old tactic that rarely works. Tell recruits they will get an opportunity and then park them in the stands or on the bench. With so many options these days, you cannot lie to players and expect any loyalty from them. It’s a shame for the players but the coaches are reaping what they sowed. And it’s a bigger problem that 2 vets just left. The issues go beyond recruiting if guys who get tons of ice time bail.
I thought transfers out of BCHL to a Hockey Canada sanctioned team were not allowed?
The option for any player leaving an Independent league to apply for readmission has always been there. I have heard Hockey Canada has agreed to approve reinstating for players joining a CHL team. This is another example of HC doing what is best for the CHL.

Trade the coach
Nobody is happy son
You seem surprised Bobby C. It has been a steady downfall since the arrival of Johnny boy and company. At least big brother fired McKee.
Hockey Canada is dominated and run by the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL. As soon as the NCAA allowed major junior players to have NCAA scholarships the CHL saw a chance to raid BCHL teams. The rule was changed in favour of major junior.
Viperdiehardfan you should NOT be allowing comments like above. I would be deleting any comment from EXFAN. Super disrespectful and totally unfounded comments about actual people. This isn’t what your blog should be about. Comments like this are considered cyber bullying. Easy to make comments behind a screen.

I’m a longtime fan and the team has just gone down hill in the last 4/5 yrs why are we having so much trouble with finding a coach that can bring this team back to a winning team to watch
The BCHL screwed up leaving Hockey Canada and will now pay for it
No, this would have happened whether BCHL left HC or not and the result would be the same. Players in BCHL will now be competing for the top D3 recruits.
BCHL did not screw up, Hockey Canada has, these new changes will affect all teams sanctioned or not!
