I'm glad the Vipers found someone to replace one of the two players that left yesterday. Ward isn't the biggest d-man hasn't put up many points in any of his past three seasons of Junior hockey. I'm looking forward to seeing him play Friday, I'd like to see what kind of a defenceman the Vipers are getting.
With all these roster moves/trades how is this team suppose to gel? This is going to hurt recruiting and trying to get kids to come here not only next year but in the future as it seems like there's a new trade or roster move every week.
If recruiting wasn't already key for BCHL teams before the new NCAA/CHL rule changed last week, recruiting will be even more of a challenge now. Several teams have already lost players to Major Junior the last few days. West Kelowna lost Jack Pridham (Chicago Blackhawks draft pick)to the Ontario Hockey League over the weekend. It will be interesting to see if the Vipers lose any other players to Major Junior. What will the BCHL look like next season and come the future?
With the way the recruiting class was handled this year, the Vipers were already in a bad spot for recruiting in the future. You have to believe prospects are seeing the ridiculous turnover of players and the horrendous record and marking Vernon as a place to avoid at all cost. Now the new rule almost guarantees they will not be getting any young top tier talent. When does management look in the mirror? There has to be a reason the players don’t want be here.
Lots of interesting comments on the BCHL losing players to Major Junior. Here is a comment/question I have not seen yet. How many BCHL players could lose their scholarship now that the universities can recruit from Major Junior., about 60 more teams to chose from?
