Blue Jackets Select Vipers Alumni Ashton In 6th Round:

The Columbus Blue Jackets selected former

Vernon Vipers defenceman Luke Ashton in the sixth round, 165th overall at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Ashton played last season with the Langley Rivermen. In 45 games, Ashton collected (18-goals-18-assists-36-points).

Ashton has committed to Minnesota State University for the 2024-25 season.

The United States Hockey League Sioux City Musketeers selected Ashton in May 2023 233rd overall in Round 16 at the USHL Draft.

Ashton played two seasons in Vernon from 2021-2023. The Vernon Vipers traded Ashton & forward Copeland Fricker to the Langley Rivermen June 29th 2023 for forwards Owen Kim & Walker Gelbard. In 81 games with the Vipers, Ashton collected (2-goals-7-assists-9-points).

Just another player who excelled when he left McKee's coaching.... I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with the Vipers scouting/recruiting. McKee just kept trying to fit square pegs into round holes over and over again. Good luck to all the new Vipers this year!!!
