Vernon Vipers Season Update With Lukas Lomicky: Part 1
Vernon Vipers Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Lukas Lomicky talks about being named Head Coach, working with Colton Sparrow and what kind of team the Vipers will have for the 2024-25 season.

After the Vipers parted ways with Head Coach/GM Jason McKee last season in March Lukas Lomicky and Colton Sparrow went 7-2-1-0 to finish the regular season, then the Vipers beat Trail in five games in the opening round of the Playoffs, a Smokies team that went 4-1-0-0 vs the Snakes during the regular season. Penticton would knock off Vernon in fives in the following round, with three games going to overtime. I really noticed a difference in the team with Jason McKee as Head Coach and then with Lukas Lomicky/Colton Sparrow running the team. With Jason McKee gone and Lukas Lomikcy named Head Coach, I'm really excited and looking forward to the upcoming season. I think a clean slate and fresh start is something that has been well overdue for years now. Go Vipers Go!
Just what this team needs is another rookie head coach,………NOT! If you have been or our a long time Viper fan you know what happened with the last rookie head coach! BS this is not what we need!
News Flash for the last contributor... Everyone is a Rookie sometime!!! If you are a true Viper fan you should look at the record of the Vipers when Lomicky & Sparrow took the reins (7-2-1-0). The Vipers were a very different team after McKee was sent packing, the players had obviously tuned him out & did not subscribe to his BS methods. Unfortunately the change was not made soon enough. Regardless, new Head Coach Lucas & asst Colton, earned the opportunity to guide this team. Good for the Glens for recognizing this. As a long time season ticket holder I am looking forward to the season for the first time in years. Let's get behind these guys instead of making premature judgements. Go Vipers Go!!!
Think about it Anonymous do you really think an experienced head coach with the highest of credentials would work for the Glen's.I highly doubt it. Give these guys a chance because it's going to be better than the last 5 years.
I have been watching/following Junior hockey in Vernon my entire life and had season tickets since 1990. I have seen a few rookie coaches succeed.
Eddie Johnstone's first coaching job was an Assistant Coach with the 1987-88 New Westminster Bruins before joining the Vernon Lakers as an Assistant Coach in 1988. Johnstone and the Vernon Lakers would win the 1990 & 1991 Centennial Cup in his first two seasons as Head Coach.
Rob Bremner with no prior coaching experience would be named the Vernon Lakers Head Coach/GM in 1992. Bremner and the Vernon Vipers would win the 1996 Royal Bank Cup.
Troy Mick with no prior coaching experience was named the Vernon Lakers Assistant Coach in 1993 before being named Head Coach/GM of the Vernon Vipers in 1996. Mick and the Vernon Vipers won the 1999 Royal Bank Cup.

At least he recognized the past history of the the Vipers and understands what te passionate fans of Vernon are expecting.
