The Prince George Spruce Kings are pleased to announce the acquisition of 19 year old defenseman Mark O’Shaughnessy from the Truro Bearcats of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL) in exchange for future considerations. O’Shaughnessy had recently been traded from the Merritt Centennials to Truro but chose not to report to Truro hoping for a move back to the BCHL.

The 5’11” 195lb O’Shaughnessy is from Kelowna, B.C. and played 49 games last season for Merritt and tallied 3 goals and 11 assists for 14 points plus 20 minutes in penalties. This season for the Centennials he scored 1 goal and had 3 assists for 4 points in 7 games played prior to his trade to Truro.

“Mark is a skilled defenseman who has the ability to contribute a lot to our team in both ends of the ice. He has proven over his hockey career that he can produce offensively from the back end and we will look for him to do that while playing a steady defensive game. He’s also a great young man who will fit in well with our group” said Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes.

Mark will join the rest of his Spruce Kings teammates in time for this Sunday’s game 3:00pm game versus the Powell River Kings.
