Duncan, BC - The Capitals have acquired 19 year-old forward Mackenzie Bauer from the Vernon Vipers in exchange for future considerations.

The Three Hills, Alberta native finished his rookie BCHL season with five goals and four assists in 27 games.

"Mackenzie had a very good start to the season and has lots of potential," said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Bob Beatty.

After putting up five points in his first five games of the 2014-15 season with the Vipers, Bauer missed nearly three months due to injury but returned in time for the playoffs where he added a goal and an assist.

"Mackenzie is an intelligent player who plays hard and will improve our club," added Beatty.

The Capitals welcome Mackenzie to the Cowichan Valley!

I was a little surprised to see Mackenzie Bauer traded yesterday. I thought he played very well for a rookie and was one of the hardest working kids on the team last year. The long term injury really hurt him-put him back but he seemed to get his game back in the playoffs. He wasnt the biggest kid but he played big, played with alot of heart. Before the article in todays paper, I thought maybe his age had something to do with the trade that and maybe the Vipers have some new bodies coming in this season, to replace Bauer. Dont forget last years team other then a few players was Jason Williamsons team that he recruited before leaving the team last September. Mark Ferner made a few trades last year but Im sure wants his own roster-team this year, will Ferner trade-release any other kids from last years team?

The Vipers lost alot of depth and scoring as well as defence. The Vipers have two current d-men on their roster and other then Liam Finlay and maybe Luke Voltin the Vipers have no real goal scorers or kids who can put the puck in the net on a daily basis. Looking at the kids returning from last season, all you have are 3rd and 4th line grinders.

The Vipers have been the quietest teams over the summer, having very little news regarding new players-new recruits for this coming season. Viper fans have no idea who will fill the empty roster spots from the players leaving after last season. after reading todays paper it sounds as if Mark Ferner and the Vipers have filled their roster, and will ice four different teams at Training Camp. This being said Im very curious-interested to see who the new Viper recruits are.

Looking forward to another season of Vipers hockey!
