Senators Re-Assign Former Vernon Viper Hammond To American Hockey League:

The Ottawa Senators have re-assigned former Vernon Vipers goaltender Andrew Hammond to the American Hockey League (AHL) Binghamton Senators. Hammond is in his first pro season with the Binghamton Senators was called up to the NHL on Wednesday and was the backup to Senators starting goaltender Robin Lehner Thursday who was pulled late in the 2nd period after giving up six goals on fifteen Detroit shots. Hammond would finish the game making his NHL debut playing just over thirty four minutes stopping all eleven Red Wing shots in a 6-1 loss to Detroit.
  
Hammond played parts of two years in Vernon (2007-2009) after coming over in a trade with the Surrey Eagles during the 2007-08 season. In 52 regular season games with the Vipers Hammond posted a (33-15-1) record recording 6 shutouts.

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the club has re-assigned goaltender Andrew Hammond to its American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

A native of Surrey, B.C., Hammond made his NHL debut in relief of Robin Lehner stopping each of the 11 shots he faced in Ottawa’s 6-1 loss to Detroit on Thursday evening. He was recalled to the NHL for the first time in his career following the B-Sens’ 4-2 setback in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon.

Hammond, 26, is currently tied for 10th among American Hockey League goaltenders with 17 wins this season and has a record of 17-12-3, in addition to a 3.02 goals-against-average and a .903 save percentage through 33 appearances as a rookie with the B-Sens this season.

Ottawa returns to action when the club visits the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Sunday at 4 p.m. EST.

The B-Sens visit St. John’s in their next contest this evening at 6 p.m. EST.
